1.3 Lord Snow
Ned
finally arrives at King’s Landing to fulfill his duties as the new Hand of the
King, and brings along Sansa and Arya with him. He later discovers that Cat has
followed them because she is convinced that what happened to their son is no
accident, and that the Lannisters are to blame. They find an unlikely ally in
Lord Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen), who happens to be her old flame. Back in
Winterfell, Bran could not remember anything from his accident, and tells his
other brother that he would rather die than be a cripple. Jon Snow begins his
training at the Wall as part of the Night’s Watch, and proves to be the best
one there, which makes him rather unpopular among the rest. Daenerys embraces
her new role as a Khaleesi, much to her brother’s disdain who keeps on
insisting that he is the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. She also finds out that
she is pregnant with Khal Drogo’s child. Cersei schools Joffrey on how to be a
good king, telling him that he can do whatever he wants once he inherits the
throne.
This episode is a bit boring and there is no cliffhanger this time around. It is nice to see Goldilocks fully embracing her fate. She has also managed to tame Conan the Barbarian so kudos to her. Are you not going to take the Iron Throne back yet? We’re all waiting, just in case you haven’t noticed! Anyway, you know that you are watching a good story unfold when it is rich in well-crafted mythology, and the old hag’s rather dark story about the White Walkers is hinting on something that could unfold later on. That IS intriguing, because warring kingdoms are not enough, there should always be a more universal circumstance that they should face as a common enemy! Queen Bitch is 50/50 in my book for this episode. She was so repugnant the last time, throwing her weight around and out-Diva-ing Mariah Carey with her attitude problem. For this episode, though, you could feel her ambition which coincides with her big dreams for Justin Bieber. Maybe she is just being an insufferable stage mother, after all. But tonight’s golden star goes to Cat, for being the strong-willed woman that she is. She could totally out-bitch the Queen Bitch if needed be!
