A Beautiful Affair (ABS-CBN): Kabanata/Episode 3

Kabanata 3

Episode 3
Finding out that Leon’s friend Fred is in need of money, Gen approaches the two and suggests that she would pay them if they would beat up her ex-boyfriend. Although hesitant, Leon still comes along to persuade the two to back out, but also ends up throwing some punches in defending the girl. After the commotion, Leon is still stuck with Gen, and is dragged into a night full of booze, dance, and eventually, a kiss. Try as they might to forget what occurred the other night, the two meet again the next day, and girl invites guy in a tour around Vienna. Meanwhile, after a long time Leon finally talks to his father, who keeps on urging him to forgive himself for past events for which he is really not to blame, which is the death of his mother in a fire incident brought about by some architectural glitches in their house which should have been fixed by him.

The flow of the events is still slow and the technique used for narration seems to be in line with those shows that come from Korea, wherein even the smallest of details is given due attention in order to firmly establish every aspect of the characters’ personalities. This could be considered as effective as it opens more opportunities for the inclusion of romantic scenes that the viewers apparently like. It would be nice if the Filipino viewing public would get used to such style of storytelling, which is comparable to reading a book that fleshes out every aspect of each event. What might be a potential dilemma would be the viewer finding the pace of the plot to be too slow, given that the show runs daily, and the Filipino audience is used to witnessing something shocking or exciting in each episode. On the other hand, this show is just good to watch because it presents scenarios that could really occur in daily life instead of replacing them with events that are interesting but unrealistic.
