A Beautiful Affair (ABS-CBN): Kabanata/Episode 28

Kabanata 28

Kasi baka pwede. Baka tama. Sumugal ako. Sumugal ako para sa ‘yo.” –Gen

Episode 28
Leon arrives at Gen’s house and presses her for answers regarding her refusal to marry Edward. Is he the reason? Does she still love him and is that also part of the reason? He eventually gets the answer he is hoping for because Gen does love him, but she will also specify make him realize how crucial his absence was when she needed him the most. She finally gets rid of the coin she had been keeping all along, which she should have done back in Vienna. As for Leon, he would rip apart a photo of the two of them together. And so, does everything end here? Leon almost falls off a building in construction whither he runs to unleash his frustrations, but he will survive, and it is Gen who meets an accident when she gets hit by a car.

This is a short but rather meaningful episode, maybe in part because of the main characters finally admitting what they really feel. Gen scores with the awesome lines that she recites but it does not help in making the audience wonder as to what she truly feels, because her litany is just so full of the word “need”. In fact, this is the trait that she has been displaying all along, how she easily falls for someone who happens to be present when she is in dire need. But does necessity equate to love? If so, why could she not feel for Edward what she feels for Leon, when it is he who was there when she needed someone the most? Why does she keep on pursuing that person who actually abandoned her? On the other hand, I so agree when she tells Leon how they could have been there for each other when they really needed one another the most, if only his cowardice did not get the best of him.
