Folge 7: Kreuzwege
Episode 7: Crossroads
1986. Jonas heads to the high school to find Mikkel. There he finds Regina and asks where the nurse, Ines Kahnwald, can be found. While walking in the rain, Egon sees him and gives him a lift to the hospital. There he finds Mikkel and wants to bring him back to 2019, but the stranger is also there and warns him that by doing so his very own existence could be erased. Grandfather Paradox. He decides against it and goes back to 2019 alone. Katharina finds out that Ulrich and Hannah are having an affair. Ulrich suspects that Charlotte’s 75-year-old father-in-law, Helge (Hermann Beyer), has something to do with the disappearance of his brother and son. He harasses him at the nursing home and follows him later that night to the woods. He is convinced that Helge kidnaps children and then hides the bodies not somewhere, but rather somewhen. In a basement somewhere, Noah the pastor writes the dates “11/05/1953” and “11/09/1953” in chalk on the wall.
My theory: 1986 Helge and 2019 Tronteter are accomplices and they kidnap children for the purpose of an intergenerational kidnapping ring! But why? What do they need the children for? Is the rift in time powered by the energy of young boys? That’s so creative! You will never get caught if you hide the evidence somewhere in time, right? Jonas, Jonas, Jonas. Why such a mindboggling dilemma? If I were in his place I would also bring back Mikkel to 2019, because that seems like the right thing to do. But that’s what makes this decision complicated. I’m also wondering what role the hut plays. Perhaps the tunnels are only accessible for certain individuals? Does that mean that the others have to find another way? Does that also mean that there are two groups? It is always like that: the good guys and the bad guys. If that is the case, then what exactly are they fighting about? I have to say that I am having a good time contemplating. I should have watched this show long ago!
