La casa de las flores: Episodio/Episode 2

Episodio 2: Crisantemo (Dolor)

Elena y Julián conocen a su media hermanita Micaela (Alexa de Landa) por primera vez. Su medio hermano Claudio Navarro (Lucas Velásquez) les anuncia la muerte de su mamá a todas las drag queens de la Casa de las Flores, o sea la OTRA Casa de las Flores, un cabaret. Paulina hace todo para que se enterre Roberta sin que se entere nadie en la familia, hasta mentir a su hermana. Aun así, la carta que le dejó Roberta a Virginia ya la recibió la matriarca y de todos modos asiste toda la familia al funeral. Allí se desarollan enfrentamientos entre marido y mujer, entre hermanos, entre madre e hija. Ernesto le dice a su esposa que el cabaret ha sido un negocio lucrativo mientras que Paulina les cuenta a sus hermanos que ese lugar fue lo que los han soportado económicamente, de hecho aún más que la florería. Virginia repudia a su hija Paulina por no decir nada a pesar de saber toda la verdad sobre la segunda familia de su padre. Por el contrario, ella cambia de opinión sobre Micaela, la cual acepta en su casa.

Pués ahora me intriga qué escribió Roberta en esa carta. “Secretos entre mujeres” dice Virginia. Parece que el marido ha hecho algo tan horrible que de buenas a primeras se sienta la esposa un vinculo fuerte con la amante de su esposo a pesar de las circunstancias. También intrigante es el conocimiento tanto como la manera de que Paulina haya condonado el pecado de su padre. Hay más a descubrir por supuesto pero por este motivo se queda Paulina como el personaje más interesante de la serie hasta el momento para mí. Sirven bien también la ironía de ver dos Casas de las Flores así de distintas pero tal vez lo más chocante sea el hecho de que tenga más éxito el cabaret. Ahora veo por qué algunas personas ven la serie como una telenovela. Viendo las capturas de pantalla que he incluído, las imagenes parecen muy telenoveleras. De verdad, hay que ver los episodios para poder percibir el humor negro el cual define la onda graciosa de la narrativa.

Episode 2: Chrysanthemum (Pain)

Elena and Julián get to know their half-sister Micaela (Alexa de Landa) for the first time. Her half-brother Claudio Navarro (Lucas Velásquez) announces the death of their mother to all the drag queens at the House of Flowers, or better yet, the OTHER House of Flowers, a cabaret. Paulina does everything so Roberta can be buried without anyone in the family knowing, even lying to her sister. Even so, the letter that Roberta left Virginia has already been received by the matriarch, and the entire family goes to the wake anyway. There, confrontations ensue between husband and wife, between siblings, between mother and daughter. Ernesto tells his wife how lucrative the cabaret has been while Paulina tells her siblings how that place has been supporting them financially, even more so than the flower shop. Virginia disowns Paulina for not telling her anything despite knowing about her father’s second family. On the contrary, she changes her mind about Micaela, whom she accepts at her home.

Well now I am really intrigued as to what Roberta wrote in that letter. “Women’s secrets,” says Virginia. It seems the husband has done something so horrible that, all of a sudden, the wife feels a strong bond with the mistress despite the circumstances. Another intriguing thing is Paulina’s knowledge as well as her way of condoning her father’s sin. There is much more to discover of course but for this reason Paulina remains to be the most interesting character of the series so far for me. They also serve irony quite well in seeing two House of Flowers so distinct from one another, but perhaps the most shocking is the fact that it is the cabaret that is more successful. Now I see why some people see the series as a telenovela. Seeing the screenshots that I included, the images do seem very soap opera-ish. You really have to watch the episodes in order to appreciate the dark humor which defines the hilarious vibe of the narrative.
