La casa de las flores: Episodio/Episode 3

Episodio 3: Lirio (Libertad)

Paulina y Claudio discuten el tema de la gestión del cabaret ya que Virginia ya le ha relevado de su posición en la otra Casa de las Flores. Después de pasar toda la noche con Diego en su depa, Julián se ve obligado a salir del closet como un requisito para que vivan juntos los dos. Trata de terminar todo con Lucía pero los dos acaban por tener sexo después de un partido de Jai-Alai. Así que, hablando con Elena y Dominique, concluye que tal vez sea bisexual. Organiza una cena con toda la familia para anunciar la verdad a través de una canción como ha sugerido una de las drag queens. No sabe que Elena ya se lo haya avisado a su mamá de antemano pero le cuesta aceptar la neta. Ella sigue fumando su marijuana y luego opta por visitar su amigo médico a quien confía todas sus preocupaciones. Esa noche, en cuanto declare Julián su orientación sexual, toca la policía el timbre para detener a Ernesto. Consola a su hija Elena y le dice a su hijo que siempre sabía lo que es y que lo va a querer do todas formas. Paulina acompaña a su papá a la comisaría.

Awww, a todos nos falta un Chuy en la vida, ¿no? Siempre que se preocupe Virginia de temas como la bisexualidad o la relación interracial, no puedo evitar de juzgarla por tal manera de pensar. No obstante, hablando con Chuy se nos entera de lo que le preocupa de verdad y nos damos cuenta de que derivan sus miedos de un lugar muy maternal. ¿Qué va a decir la gente y comó les afectará a sus hijos? Por más que quieramos odiar a Virginia, la neta es que la entendemos bien. La Casa de las Flores puede ser una telenovela disfrazada de un “Netflix Original” pero me encanta ver tal narrativa que aborda temas oportunos e importantes los cuales arrojan luz sobre las verdades de la sociedad contemporánea. Los tabúes pueden quedarse en Televisa. En mi opinión la serie maneja bien el tema de la bisexualidad. A ver cómo va a encarar lo de la relación interracial. Por eso debemos agradecer a Netflix por ofrecer proyectos que imponen un reto a la manera de que vemos la sociedad moderna en general.

Episode 3: Lily (Freedom)

Paulina and Claudio discuss the issue of managing the cabaret since Virginia has already relieved her of her position in the other House of Flowers. After spending the whole night at Diego’s flat, Julián is obliged to come out of the closet as a condition for them to live together. He tries to end everything with Lucía but the two just end up having sex after a match of Jai-Alai. As such, talking to Elena and Dominique, he concludes that perhaps he is bisexual. He organizes a dinner with the whole family to announce the truth by virtue of a song as suggested by one of the drag queens. He’s not aware that Elena already told their mother about it in advance, but she’s having difficulties accepting the truth. She goes on smoking her marijuana and then opts to visit her doctor friend, to whom she confides all of her problems. That evening, as Julián declares his sexual orientation to his family, the police ring the doorbell to arrest Ernesto. He consoles his daughter Elena and tells his son that he has always known about him and that he will love him no matter what. Paulina accompanies her father to the police station.

Awww, we all need a Chuy in our lives, don’t we? Every time Virginia worries about issues like bisexuality and interracial relationships I can’t help but judge her for her way of thinking. Nevertheless, talking to Chuy we realize that her fears are coming from a very maternal place. What will people say and how will that affect her children? As much as we’d like to hate Virginia, the truth is we understand where she is coming from. La Casa de las Flores might be a soap opera disguised as a “Netflix Original” but I am delighted to watch a narrative that deals with timely and important themes which shed light on the many truths of modern society. The taboos can stay on Televisa. In my opinion the series tackles the issue of bisexuality well. Let’s see how it will fare with the theme of interracial relationships. For that we have to thank Netflix for coming up with projects that challenge the way we view contemporary society in general.
