Episode 25: Sunflower (Power)
1979. One of Virginia’s friends, homosexual Patricio Lascurain (Christian Chávez), brings drugs from Canada and shares it with the group. What comes next is a night of hedonism at a beach resort in Acapulco. She has sex not only with Salo but also with Pato at that very same night. Ernesto comes along unaccompanied and goes solo observing his friends. Drugged, Salo finds a talking sock and names it Chuy. At present, María José arrives in Mexico City. Accompanied by Alejo, she visits Paulina in jail, but Paulina realizes that it is not really María José who has come to visit, but rather Purificación who is dressing up as her sister. She is there to make sure that Paulina will get the maximum jail term without María José finding out. After pretending to find the potential father of Elena’s baby, Diego already tells Julián that it is actually he who impregnated his sister and that he did it for him. Julián finds it difficult to accept that and walks out on his boyfriend. Micaela attempts to launch a career as an entertainer with the help of an influencer.
Well, thanks for reigniting our interest. The third season serves both as a prequel and a sequel, all rolled into one. In spite of that, plot development seems a bit slow. Even then, it seems promising. The scenes in the past unveil new truths about some characters and pave the way for some retcons. For example: Paulina’s parentage. Virginia slept with both Salo and Pato. It can be the case that Paulina’s dad is not Salo, but rather Pato, whom we haven’t met yet at present. After all, why introduce a new character without a reason, right? I also like the throwback to Chuy’s origin. It seems like something of little importance but it is like a way to link the present to the past; the final season with the first. I do hope that the current plot becomes more interesting because for now I find the storyline in the past to be catchier. The plan of María José’s weirdo sister is intriguing alright, but I never liked that character. May they give us a good explanation as to why she is behaving that way.
