Episodio 26: Yerbera (Primer Amor)

1979. La mamá de Virginia la envía a un internado exclusivo para damas con objeto de contener su rebeldía. Allí también va Carmelita, aunque por motivos totalmente diferentes. Llegan a conocer a una alumna rebelde la cual les enseña todo sobre la sexualidad y la siembra de la mota. Aunque prohibido, Ernesto y Salo las visitan a altas horas de la noche y los cuatro aprovechan el momento: Carmela con Ernesto; y Virginia con Salo. En el presente, Diego visita a sus papás para darles la noticia de su inminente paternidad pero en vez de felicitarlo le dan un folleto para una terapia de conversión para homosexuales. Después de 10 años sin verlo aún no lo aceptan por ser gay. Paulina descubre que Jenny no ejerce de verdad mucha influencia en la cárcel. Más bien al contrario: ella sufre de un constante régimen de aislamiento a causa del abusivo director de la prisión. Comienza una extraña alianza entre las dos mujeres. Alejo empieza a dudar el fingimiento de Purificación. Victoria y Delia platican sobre los últimos días de Virginia.

Así es la formula. Parece que cada recorrido al pasado revela algo nuevo. En este caso llegamos a saber el principio de la relación entre Virginia y la mota. Lo inesperado es, tal vez, lo de Ernesto y Carmelita porque no puedo recordar nada raro entre los dos en las dos primeras temporadas. Vamos a ver a dónde nos va a llevar esta subtrama y si eso significa que los dos van a tener algo especial en el presente. A fin de cuentas esa escena curiosa de Poncho en el episodio anterior indica algo intrigante. Pero qué lentísimo es el desarollo del tema sin nada importante pasando. Para colmo, ni aparecen los otros personajes como Julián o Elena porque la neta es que ya no hay mucho que se puede hacer con ellos. Ahora que lo pienso, ya se ha gastado mucho tiempo con las subtramas deslucidas de esos dos durante la segunda temporada. Por lo menos ya hay la posibilidad de poner el foco en el desarollo del carácter de los demás. En general es un episodio aburrido. Aún se puede aumentar un poco la presión.

Episode 26: Gerbera (First Love)

1979. Virginia’s mom sends her to an exclusive boarding school for girls to curb her rebellious nature. Carmelita also goes to that school, albeit for totally different reasons. They get to know a rebellious student who teaches them all about sexuality and marijuana planting. Although prohibited, Ernesto and Salo visit them in the dead of night and the four of them seize the moment: Carmela with Ernesto; and Virginia with Salo. At present, Diego visits his mom and dad to break to them the news of his impending fatherhood but instead of congratulating him, they give him a flyer for gay conversion therapy. After 10 years of not seeing him, they still don’t accept him for being gay. Paulina discovers that Jenny doesn’t really wield much influence in prison. Quite the contrary: she suffers from constant solitary confinement because of the abusive jail director. An unlikely alliance between the two women is born. Alejo begins doubting Purificación’s pretense. Victoria and Delia chat about Virginia’s final days.

And so there is the formula. It seems as though each journey to the past reveals something new. In this case we get to know the start of Virginia’s relationship with marijuana. What’s unexpected, perhaps, is that of Ernesto and Carmelita, because I couldn’t remember anything strange between those two in the first two seasons. Let’s see where this subplot will take us and if this means they will have something special in the present. After all, that odd scene with Poncho in the last episode does hint on something intriguing. But how slow is plot development with nothing important happening. What’s more, other characters like Julián or Elena don’t even appear because there’s nothing much that can be done with them anymore. Come to think of it, much time has already been wasted on those two’s lackluster subplots during the second season. At least now it’s possible to focus on the character development of the rest. Overall, it’s a boring episode. They can still up the ante a little bit more.
