2. Superhuman Law
Despite winning the hearts of a lot of people as America’s newest superhero, Jennifer loses the case after her showdown with Titania, what with the defending law firm partner Holden Holliway (Steve Coulter) declaring a mistrial. To make matters worse, Jen is fired from her job and no law firm wants to hire her because they believe she as She-Hulk is too much of a liability for her to be taken seriously in court. Hopeless, she resorts to moping and reconnecting with her family through dinner, but they are only interested in the new superhero aspect of her life. While alone and drinking, she gets a surprise from Holliway who offers her to head GLK&H’s newest Superhuman law division that aims to deal with the legal aspect of superhero shenanigans. The catch? She has to do it as She-Hulk. She agrees, but is blindsided by her first client, Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) AKA Abomination, who is fighting to get a parole. The two meet and she is convinced by his story. She then takes the case after getting approval via phone from Bruce.
While the misogynistic manbabies are busy crying over their favorite buzzword for any TV or film character that is not white, male, and/or hetero, I am just here enjoying this new light we find the MCU in. Come to think of it, the legal repercussions of the existence of superheroes and vigilantes have always been just glossed over in the MCU. Sokovia Accords? Hawkeye and Ant-Man’s house arrest? These are used as plot devices for convenient storytelling, but never really explored in full legalese. And that’s where this show finds its niche. What happens in the aftermath of these superpowered folks bashing each other’s heads? I hope they do dive deep into those. For now, the promise is with Abomination as well as the legal consequences of his side hustle at Xia-Ling’s lucrative fighting ring in Macau. I guess we will be seeing Wong anytime soon now. As for the biggest question of the episode, perhaps: What the hell is Banner doing on that Sakaarian spaceship and where is he headed to? Is he taking us to the rumored Planet Hulk storyline?
“More and more eccentric superhumans are coming out of the woodwork. We just started a Superhuman Law Division and I want you, well, the She-Hulk, to be the face of it.” –Holden Holliway
