She-Hulk: Attorney at Law - Episode 4

4. Is This Not Real Magic?
Jennifer tries to balance her personal and professional lives by deciding to go back to the dating game via online dating app Matcher. Unfortunately, she gets few matches and the one date she shows up at proves to be a mistake. Frustrated, she jumps the gun and revamps her profile as She Hulk’s, after which she gets a ton of matches with mixed results. Weeding out the fanboys and weirdos, she ends up with a pediatric oncologist with whom she feels compatible with. They skip the niceties and head directly back home, but their little night of romance is interrupted by the Sorcerer Supreme himself. Wong hired Jen as his representation for a cease-and-desist case against ex-Kamar Taj trainee now magician Donny Blaze (Rhys Coiro) who accidentally sends a drunk bimbo named Madisynn (Patty Guggenheim) his way who eventually becomes his The Sopranos and This Is Us marathon buddy. After helping Wong get rid of demon goblins Donny accidentally summons, Jen is served a warrant by Titania, who just trademarked the She-Hulk name.

Another episode, another Wong. The show is self-aware, though, and pokes fun at it, which makes me want to believe that they have this under control. While I am getting close to dismissing this frequent Wong guesting as mere stunt casting, I am still enjoying the interplay between law and magic. And who else can better highlight that tricky dichotomy other than the Sorcerer Supreme himself, right? In any case, the same bugging question from last week remains: Who is the big bad here? Is it Titania? We are already on Episode 4 and there seems to be no big threat yet to be introduced. I understand that this show works as some sort of a sitcom but it is still the MCU and we need to our big bad. Otherwise, the audience might just disengage if they end up thinking that this is just a joyride without stakes in the bigger cinematic universe. Let’s hope they will at least leave us with some crumbs to follow come episode 5. On the contrary, we witness She-Hulk’s first superhero team-up and it looks promising.

“You look happy. I guess you saw that Wong is back. God, everybody loves Wong. It's like giving the show Twitter armor for a week.” –Jennifer Walters
