9. Whose Show Is This?
Post-incident, Jen finds herself in the very same maximum-security prison Blonsky was. Her plea deal involves the same parameters: that of a bracelet tracker and the provision of not transforming into She-Hulk ever again. She loses her law firm job. She moves back to her parents’ house. She then decides to take a mental break and go uninvited to Blonsky’s retreat for some peace of mind. Nikki uploads Jen’s college twerking vid to Intelligence’s website and gets an instant invite for their meet-up. She enlists Pug’s help to go in for her undercover. There, it is revealed that Todd is the HulkKing and he is hosting incels in a pep talk with Blonsky as the speaker. The venue turns out to be his retreat as well. Jen walks in on all of them. Todd injects himself with the blood Josh extracted from her and becomes a Hulk. Titania gatecrashes. Bruce appears out of nowhere and has a rematch with Abomination. Disappointed with how the story is ending, Jen breaks the fourth wall, visits the writers of her show, and gets to meet MCU algorithm bot K.E.V.I.N.
With that twist ending, She-Hulk just became the MCU’s most meta project to date. Self-aware. Trolled the trolls big time. With both Feige and the incels online not being spared from the bloodshed, this show has been a critique not just of the toxic fanbase but also of the MCU’s tried-and-tested formula they’ve been milking for years. I guess we’ll just take Jen’s word for it. It’s just a lawyer show! If this is the path they are taking, though, then I hope that Season 2 would start looking like a legit court room comedy, because Season 1 feels like a strange middle ground that sort of played it safe. As for new character introductions, Skaar (Wil Deusner) appearing last minute with his father Bruce is just the confirmation we need that World War Hulk/Planet Hulk is defo happening in the big screen, which is just apt given how the solo film rights for the character is reverting to Marvel from Universal as early as next year if I heard it correctly. And that’s all, folks.
“Well yeah, that what Hulks do. We smash things. Brunce smashes buildings. I smash fourth walls and bad endings. And sometimes Matt Murdock.” –Jennifer Walters
