3. The Fog
Ling Yi (Isabella Wei) is not really a geisha. She and her mother Yuk Je (Gabby Wong) worked in a brothel in Hong Kong and Virginia was their pimp. Her next target for her ward is Lucien, whom they eventually get, only for him to have an epileptic seizure before Ling Yi undresses. Before this, she crosses paths with Olek on deck after an argument with her mother. With the compases going haywire and fog now enveloping the ocean, the ship’s speed decreases significantly. Discovering a tiled shaft under his bed, Eyk decides to go back to the Prometheus to search for the captain’s log book for clues. Maura comes along. He finds a page of the passenger list and sees Maura’s name there. Eyk’s right-hand man Franz (Isaak Dentler) leads Tove to her sister’s corpse. As the third class passengers mourn her, he stumbles upon more lifeless bodies on his way out. He then starts an armed mutiny to force the captain to turn the ship around. Daniel tinkers with a device that looks like a puzzle. Moving the pieces, an onboard generator ignites and the Cerberus vanishes into thin air.
Ramiro finally drops the Castilian Spanish and shifts to his native European Portuguese. This show is such an orgy of languages and I am so here for it! I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up a cult classic in polyglot circles a few years down the line. As for plot development, if you were so thirsty for clues in the first two episodes but all you got were trickles from the faucet, then brace yourself for episode 3 because that dam is about to overflow. Information overload it is indeed. More secrets from the main characters surface as more bodies pile up. And then it now seems like a tradition how they end the episode with a technologically out of place twist. Just when you’re about to breathe from all the intersecting drama of almost everyone onboard, you get hit by bits and pieces of this twist that just won’t leave you in peace. And so we have to adjust our theories yet again. Henry Singleton is the British investor of the shipping line. Maura’s bro is named Henry, and she was onboard the Prometheus too. Same room to boot!
