6. The Pyramid
The survivors split up to get things done. Tove, Clémence, Iben, and Virginia search the ship for survivors as Tove suffers from flashbacks of her family’s tragic past and Virginia is stabbed by one of the crystal-like black stalagmites now invading the entire ship. Ramiro, Iben’s husband Anker (Alexandre Willaume), and Sebastian are left at the captain’s cabin but Sebastian sneaks out to meet Henry at the wasteland. He is asked once more to find The Boy, whose pyramid is essential to the success of their project. The men and Ying Li head to the engine room to power up the ship once more. Maura takes Eyk with her to the asylum to look for The Boy. They discover that that little corner of pocket reality is bound by the hulls of the ship and appears fully contained therein. Daniel shows up after following them and has an altercation with Eyk. Tinkering with his device sends Eyk to the Prometheus where he sees other floating ghost ships surrounding it. Daniel tells Maura that he is her husband.
This is all starting to make sense, children. I am just not quite sure about the nature of this specific universe as to whether it is indeed a computer simulation or all happening inside a person’s brain. That revelation about Maura’s mother seemingly battling Alzheimer’s based on her description of the symptoms fired up some creative juices in my brain. What if Daniel and Henry are the same person and all of this is some sort of a medical experiment to have Maura remember him? In short, some sort of clinical testing for an Alzheimer’s cure? Think The Notebook but with a post-apocalyptic or philosophical twist. What if that wasteland where Henry is often found is not real but rather a type of metaphorical setup meant to depict an Alzheimer patient’s decaying brain? Come to think of it, The Boy is ALWAYS handing over his pyramid to Maura but can’t seem to articulate what she has to do with it. Perhaps the ship is the only core memory left and the passengers there are just people Maura remembers from 1899?
“People are oblivious to reality. They only see what they want to see. Imprisoned by their minds' restrictions. And all they have to do is to shift their perspective to see the full scope of things.” –Henry
